چکیده

Stable isotopes recorded in fish eye lenses are an emerging tool to track dietary shifts coincident with use of diverse habitats over the lifetime individuals. Eye metabolically inert, sequentially deposited, archival tissues that can open avenues chronicle contaminant exposures, diet histories, trophic dynamics and migratory histories individual fishes. In this study, we demonstrated reconstructed using resolve key uncertainties regarding habitat shifts. Clear Lake hitch (Lavinia exilicauda chi), a threatened cyprinid, inhabits single lake (Clear Lake, County, California) utilizes tributary streams for reproduction. Bayesian mixing models applied ? 13 C 15 N uncovered ontogenetic corresponded occupation providing spawning (tributary streams), rearing (littoral lake), growth (pelagic lake) functions. The reconstruction size-structured information provide vital needed manage conserve imperiled species such as hitch.

Habitat Selection and Ontogenetic Shifts in Treefrogs (Family: Hylidae)

Few studies have concentrated on the life history characteristics of arboreal anurans away from breeding ponds, and sampling of these species is difficult due to their ability to evade visual detection and other traditional herpetological census techniques. This study utilizes polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes to test for habitat selection of hylid treefrogs at the Natural Areas Teaching Lab in th...

Stable Isotopes in Fish Eye Lenses as Potential Recorders of Trophic and Geographic History

We evaluated eye lenses as potential recorders of stable isotope histories in fish because they consist of metabolically inert optical proteins that are deposited in successive, concentric circles (laminae) much like otolith circuli and tree rings. We conducted four different tests on lenses from red snapper, red grouper, gag, and white grunt. The first test was a low-resolution screening of mu...

Modeling the Effects of Future Outflow on the Abiotic Habitat of an Imperiled Estuarine Fish

Future development and climate change pose potentially serious threats to estuarine fish populations around the world. We examined how habitat suitability for delta smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus), a state and federally protected species, might be affected by changes in outflow in the San Francisco Estuary due to future development and climate change. Forty years of sampling data collected dur...

Depth Estimation using Stereo Fish-Eye Lenses

This paper presents the estimation of depth in an indoor, structured environment based on a stereo setup consisting of two fish-eye lenses, with parallel optical axes, mounted on a robot platform. The use of fish-eye lenses provides for a large field of view to estimate better the depth of features very close to the lens. To extract significant information from the fish-eye lens images, we firs...
